Pre-Professional Program
The Pre-Professional Program at the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy is an intense training program customized for serious young dancers designed to meet the highest artistic standards. As part of the Pre-Professional Program, students participate in a full schedule of evening dance classes, and perform in the ACBA's productions. Placement in the Pre-Professional Division is by audition and recommendation only. Please contact ACBA to schedule an audition.
Creative Movement
Creative Movement is a joyful way for children to explore imaginative movement activities through music and dance, introducing children to musical, body, and spatial awareness, while developing coordination and motor skills. Patterns, storytelling, and musicality are the focus as children develop social and motor skills, rhythmic awareness, coordination, and balance. For ages 2-3. This is a non-performing class.
Benefits: coordination, self-confidence, motor development, and exercise
Modern & Contemporary
Modern dance is an ever-changing dance form that focuses on musicality and expression to shape movements and choreography. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are also incorporated. This is an expressive style of dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, contemporary, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Modern/Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Dancers perform at the Winter and Spring Recital.
Benefits: expressive and emotional outlet, self-confidence, body and spacial awareness, strength, and endurance
Mini-Modern
Mini Modern is a pre-modern and pre-contemporary class. Dancers will learn the basics of modern, lyrical, and contemporary dance while connecting fluid dance movement to emotional expression. Dancers perform in the Spring Recital.
Benefits: expressive and emotional outlet and self-confidence
Jazz
This fun class combines upbeat, stylized movement with proper technique. Jazz dance is based on ballet principles. All jazz classes follow a traditional fun class structure consisting of a warm-up using isolated movements, across the floor progressions, and current choreography all set to age appropriate music. Dancers perform in the Nutcracker and Spring Recital.
Benefits: coordination, self confidence, flexibility, strength, and endurance
Tap
Tap is great for developing musicality and coordination skills. Tap dancers use special shoes to create different rhythms, sounds and patterns. Tap is one of the most traditional forms of dance. Dancers perform in the Nutcracker and Spring Recital.
Benefits: puzzle/problem solving, pattern recognition, coordination and rhythm
Adult Classes
These classes are for individuals age 14 and up with little or no previous ballet experience.
